IIT Madras offers a variety of B.Tech/Dual Degree/B.S/M.S Dual Degree programmes for which the total number of seats is 838 out of which 410 seats are for General Category.
In 2016, the lowest cutoff was 7523 for admission in the five-year B.S and M.S Dual Degree course in Biological Sciences. Out of all the courses offered by IIT Madras, Computer Science and Engineering has been one of the most famous and prestigious course. The closing rank for general in B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering was 171 in 2016.
Alumnus of IIT Madras are Dr. Anant Agarwal, who is a distinguished alumini of IIT Madras, is now a leading researcher in the field of semiconductors, and has set up his own company called CTO and also received the Maurice Wilkes Award in computer architecture and is now the Director of the MIT Computer Science and Aritficial Intelligence Laboratory. Kris Gopalakrishnan, a co-founder of Infosys and former President of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is also among the many reputed alumni of IITM.
